For over 20 years, the club has brought the love of lacrosse to the communities of Branchburg & Somerville. Founded in 2001, originally as Branchburg Barrage, our organization’s mission is to introduce, promote, develop, administer and instruct players and coaches in the progression of youth lacrosse. Nearly 1,000 players have come through our program with hundreds playing competitively in college following high school.

On average, Jr. Pioneers Lacrosse enrolls nearly 200 players each season, offering competitive team play for both boys and girls (grades 3-8).  In addition, Jr. Pioneers Lacrosse hosts an Development Program for the youngest of players looking to experience the game for the first time. Available to boys and girls in grades K-2, the clinic is organized Somerville High School Lacrosse coaches and teaches the fundamentals – everything from passing, catching, cradling and more. Many of the children who participate move on to join the club full time, playing on one of our teams.

In the fall of 2019, Branchburg Barrage officially rebranded as Jr. Pioneers Lacrosse. A strategic move years in the making, the rebrand helped align the club with that of the Somerville High School Pioneers boys and girls lacrosse programs. Rebranding has generated significant excitement and pride among our families, especially as many of our 8th grade players will play at the next level when they transition to Somerville High School.

In addition to playing under the “Pioneer” umbrella, the club has always been closely aligned with the high school at many levels, including fundraisers and training. Each year, Somerville High School invites the club to take part in a comprehensive clinic which takes place on the school’s varsity fields.  The clinic is hosted by the school’s coaching staff and run by the players themselves. It’s an effort which builds camaraderie among the club’s players and the high school, fosters growth and encourages familiarity with the coaching staff.
